Shocking as a church in Ibadan was thrown into a confused and bewildered state when their Pastor refused to complete the baptism of a child of two of his church members, upon hearing among the names of the baby, the one that ended in “-ebola”, according to reports reaching
An eyewitness to the incident spoke to our correspondent, saying that the ceremony had been proceeding as planned, until when the pastor asked the parents for the names of the baby, which were “Adebola Mary.”
On hearing the names, the pastor flew into a rage, and refused to proceed further with the ceremony, and accused the shocked parents of trying to bring Ebola, the dangerous viral epidemic slowly spreading globally, into his church.
According to the eyewitness, the entire baptism was eventually cancelled, with the pastor saying that henceforth, all babies whose names may end in “-ebola” would not be baptised in the church, and church members already bearing such names would need to be quarantined.
The Oyo state government has already moved in to contain the situation with talks of ‘quarantine’ being heard of loosely.
