Boko Haram is a strong and co-odinated pseudo-Islamist terrorist group, that has it central base in Kanamma, north eastern Nigeria.
This group’s name “Boko Haram” is an Hausa word, when translated to English, it means “Western education is sinful”. This group opposes to everything that is of Western idea, most especially the Western education, ideologies and other systems, such as democracy and what have you.

The History of Boko Haram In Nigeria
Boko Haram sect, although has been existing since 2001, wasn’t that popular in Nigeria until 2009, when it participated actively in the sectarian terror, which happened then in Northern Nigeria.
Mr Mohammed Yusuf, who was the group’s boss(leader) until men of the Nigerian Armed Forces killed him in 2009, founded the Boko Haram sect. After the of death of Mohammed Yusuf, Abubakar Shekau took upon himself the new Boko Haram leader, and he still holds that position till this very date. Other bonafide and acting members of the group include Abul Qaqa and Abu Zaid, both spokespersons of the terror group.
Back then at the group inception, they started out as a purely Islamic group, the present activities of the group is questionable for 3 reasons. Firstly, the group is not only against non-Muslims, it is also fighting the Nigerian government as well. The group is responsible for the bombings of the UN complex in Abuja and other government owned property.And secondly, trending Boko Haram gist clearly reveals that the group does not exclusively comprise of Muslims, as a few non-Muslims have been spotted as members of the dreaded group in the past.
And thirdly, the dreaded group has not spared some prominent and active Muslims, as they had attacked mosques and killed Islamic religious leaders as recorded in the past.
Boko Haram crisis, which is still a big threat to Nigeria till date started formally in 2009 with the religious violence between rival Islamic groups in Northern Nigeria. since that day, not less than 10,000 persons have been killed in various attact spearheaded by the group.
