For Real Madrid today is a day, before and above all, for an acknowledgement.
'This will not be one of the best goalkeepers at our club - it is the best goalkeeper in the history of Real Madrid and Spanish football.
This is therefore a goodbye of a million sensations, full of hopes, dreams, sacrifices and wins.
'Iker Casillas has made our shield even bigger. He was our captain and has defended our goal for 25 years.'Terms were finally agreed after a lengthy transfer saga that angered Casillas to the point where he turned down the offer of a send off in the stadium
On Thursday night, the two parties were still arguing over the details of the goalkeeper’s pay-off with Casillas threatening to stay at the club, which would have potentially derailed David de Gea’s move to the Spanish capital.
But the announcement of Casillas' departure will heighten further speculation that De Gea is set for a switch to Real. Casillas leaves the Bernabeu after a 16-year professional career that saw him make 725 appearances in all competitions for the club.
He also won five La Liga titles, three Copa del Reys and the Champions League three times among a host of other honours.
