Adegboruwa who made this known in an interview with Channels TV this morning, in a statement said it was an unfortunate event and too early for Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, to be turning against the solemn promises he made to Nigerians. He argued that it was not enough for the president to declare his asset with the Code of Conduct Bureau, but to further make the content of the assets public.
When confronted with the interviewers that the constitution allows Buhari 100days to make it known and that the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) would need time to review the documents before making it public, Adegboruwa faulted the statement saying that according to the Freedom of Information act, documents submitted to the CCB were exempted as they were to be treated as confidential.
He wondered why Buhari would wait for the documents to be verified before making it public if he was sure he was giving them the correct information. According to him, the CCB cannot go to the bank to verify Buhari's account for instance as they will take whatever statements given to them at face value.
When asked why he faulted Buhari's Inaugural speech, Adegboruwa said the speech was neither here nor there. He said he did not see any policy statement made by Buhari in the speech concerning how he was going to tackle the major problems facing Nigeria such as Power, Security, Unemployment and Petroleum Scarcity.
One of the interviewers asked him what exactly he intended Buhari to say in his speech that wasn't said, he stressed that Buhari's speech was vague and that he expected him to have made one or two pronouncements. He gave an example with the Lagos state Governor Akinwinmi Ambode who in his inaugural speech created a ministry and 2 other offices to attack specific issues. He said Buhari for instance could have declared an emergency in the power sector.
